The updated RICS professional standard on sustainability and ESG in commercial property valuation offers a framework for integrating environmental and social considerations into valuation advice that is applicable on a global scale.
Effective from 31 January 2022, it aligns ESG principles with core valuation mechanics, such as purpose, basis and approach, and will complement the Red Book Global Standards. It includes practical guidance, a glossary of key terms, and references to leading benchmarking tools. As part of a broader suite of sustainable standards, including ICMS 3 and the Responsible Business Framework, this update builds on the 2013 guidance and will evolve alongside international valuation and regulatory developments.
